Authors : P. Paramashivaiah, B.M. Satish, D.G. Kantharaj, B.K. Suresh, Pralhad Rathod, G. Sudarshana Reddy, R. Shashidhar Pages : XII+334 Over the year’s business environment has gone through some enormous changes due to the changes in - socio-economic situations, consumers’ demands, technological devel- opments, political scenario and the like. Today’s business environment is characterized by globalization; liberalization, privatization, advanced technology; intense competi- tion; powerful customers and consumers; efficient and effective processes; and social responsibility. Present business organisations are significantly affected by the global business environment. Competition has become more intense due to the presence of large number of companies, fast change in technology and consumers’ tastes. Each and every firm is adopting and implementing innovative strategies in order to stay much ahead of its competitors. In such competitive environment product life cycle has been shortened. Today a product reaches to its maturity phase very fast and one of the main reasons behind this is the launch of new technology. A technology which is heavily used today might be completely obsolete tomorrow and the products that are dependent on that technology also become irrelevant to the consumers. But, only those businesses which are able to dance in tune with the changing business environment are going to stay in the show or they have come out of the market. Continuous use of technology helps organisations gain and sustain competitive advantage. In other words, today’s executives are totally dependent on technology to achieve their organisation’s goals and objectives - without technology they cannot compete. Developing business strat- egy and framing the business technology strategy defines the future direction of any organization in achieving competitive advantage. Pervasive technology use... measured by boosting business results requires the development of business strategy that fully integrates technology capabilities and innovations. We can say that the benefits of tech- nology in business are immeasurable. Business can leverage the benefits of technology to increase productivity, to do business globally, to access new markets, to finding new products, to raise revenues and to build better relationships with customers. Technol- ogy makes it possible for a business to have greater mobility, and it limits the possibil- ity of human error, thereby survive longer in the business arena. Keeping this we have invited to academicians and scholars from across the country to participate and present their research papers on the conference theme chosen “Technology in Business: A Com- petitive Edge for Organizations”. We would like to convey our sincere thanks and appreciation to all the contributors of research papers to the conference. We are highly indebted to our honourable Vice Chancellor Dr. S. C.
