In India, the term ‘social work’ is generally used to include almost any activity which intended to help, restore, or promote some aspects of the physical, economic and social well-being of individuals and groups (Nagpaul, 1988). It is not at all a new thing and it has been done as it still is. Social work in India has been practiced as an act of friendship and in the ordinary course of duty by the priest, the teacher, the doctor and the lawyer.
