Dear Editor,

Thank you very much for sending me five issues of the Monthly Journal Social Work Foot Prints. I have gone through all of them. The photographs of former colleagues and senior social work educators revived the memories of 1960s onwards and made me nostalgic. I read the Section, Interviews with Professor Dr.H.M.Marulasiddaiah and Svein Heneriksen and other articles on Field Action Projects. All the five Issues of the Journal have been posted to the Mahatma Gandhi Centre of Social Work, Nagaland for reference.

Your effort to bring out a Monthly Journal of Social Work indeed commendable. Please accept my congratulations. A small write-up is being forwarded as desired for necessary action.

Letter to the editor, Social Work Foot-Prints

I am glad that the unread lecture of Prof. P.T. Thomas has at last been published after ten years! I am sad, very sad that it is a posthumous publication. It need not have been so. It could have been published in the Indian Journal of Social Work much earlier, latest at the time of the celebrations of 75 years of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, July 2011. He was a distinguished alumnus of TISS. Prof. Thomas was first to make a survey of 30 years of social work education for a seminar at TISS which was titled ‘Problems of Social Work Education in India’ and published in the Indian Journal of Social Work 1967 (Vol 28-1). The next survey, 40 years of Social Work Education was by this writer and it was published in 1987 by the Indian Council of Social Welfare. Thomas wrote and published very little, though, he was capable of writing more. Congratulations for “Introducing” P.T. Thomas, posthumously soon after K.V. Sridharan.

Dear Mr. Ramesha,

I have been viewing your mails regularly but unable to respond due to various factors. Now I find some breathing time to express my views. The purpose of this mail is to convey my warm appreciation to you and your colleagues for your efforts in helping Social Work fraternity by means of various activities viz publication of journal, helping those who prepare for NET examination to mention a few Prof. Rangasamy from Madurai did a splendid work in compiling the work of eminent Social work authors. Dr. P.J. Naidu from Chennai continues to contribute amazingly towards School Social Work despite many hurdles. Institutions like Rajakiri publish journals of good standard. I request you to kindly review the work of many institutions, find out gaps or untouched area in Social work and try to concentrate on that front in addition to what you are already doing.

The number of schools of Social work has been steadily increasing throughout the country with Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu forging ahead. Simultaneously the distance mode education in Social work also is going on in several universities despite vehement protests and opposition by a galaxy of Professor. Your organisation may kindly take note of this matter and do whatever you can.

The salary of Social Workers in many organisations is abysmally low. Though we cannot exercise control over such organisations, strategies like pursuance, lobbying, etc., may be done as you have developed a strong network now.

I commend the great attempt of Niratanka team bringing up the magazine in social work discipline in bilingual is first of its kind in India. I got a chance to know about our renowned social work scholars, professionals, and academicians in social work discipline through the biography columns. While, I have come across many articles reflected in the monthly issues are very relevant to the present scenario and those are giving in-depth knowledge for the readers, especially social workers and academicians, research scholars. Covering competitive examinations like glossary for NET is useful tool for the students. The editorial column by Mr. Ramesha is giving a burning topic with a philosophical touch to the readers.
